Top Ten Sci-fi TV shows

Tv has changed a lot in recent times, Sci-fi which was not so popular genre has now got a steady viewership. So here it is my list of top ten sc fi tv shows of all times.
Note: I am not including superhero tv shows on this list as they are more of comic book shows than sci-fi shows.

So here we go

At number 10 is Babylon 5

No. 10 Babylon 5

Babylon 5 is a 90s sci-fi show about a space station that houses different species and is kind of a diplomatic space. Many alien species are cohabitating is a long cylindrical space station and deal with different issues with each other. This a little older show but does have a good story and decent special effects you just have to put on a 90s hat while watching it. Babylon 5 has made this list due to its story and costumes.

No. 9 Person of Interest

Big brother is watching you; this is the theme of Person of Interest. A brilliant software developer, Harold Finch, builds ‘The Machine’ an artificially intelligent system that monitors all the surveillance feeds and predicts terrorist plot as well as violent events. With the help of an ex CIA operative Harold tries to prevent these violent crimes. A very intriguing plot with nicely put twists makes you glued to the show.

No. 8 Eureka

This light comedy sci-fi show brings in a great cast and an intriguing story. After World War 2 US has built a town called Eureka where it brings world’s greatest minds to develop technology. A not so smart Deputy, United States Marshal stumbles into this town and becomes the Sharif. He has to bring a little ordinary sanity in this brilliant town to save the town from itself. This is a must see sci-fi show with some cheese humor.

No. 7 Doctor Who

This is a cheesy show that one cannot stop watching once started. This British show is the longest running show that is about a time lord (Doctor Who) who is a time traveler and his adventures. Doctor with his companion travels across time and space solving problems, wars and bad guys. There always a moral to the story/episode. Doctor with his time traveling TARDIS device, which looks like a blue police box, fights various adversaries. Doctor is not fond of weapons and has rarely used any weapon, Doctors only weapon is his wit and a sonic screwdriver

No. 6 Sense8

This Netflix show has a unique plot with 8 people around the globe get powers which allow them to communicate with one another and also trade places. They are connected with one another and can help each other even though they are on the other side of the planet. They trade their skills and experiences with one another as needed. The entire concept is different and unique. This show gets the originality points for sure.

No. 5 Andromeda

After the fall of Systems Commonwealth, Captain Dylan Hunt lost in time gathers and leads misfits to bring back Commonwealth. They with the greatest ship, artificially intelligent Andromeda, encounter difficulties and adversaries. This show with its humor and cast makes it a great space adventure. Andromeda gets a spot on this list due to its portrayal of the ship and its avatar.

No. 4 Orphan black

This show does not have any innovative concept but this got reorganization due to the acting of Tatiana Maslany. She portrays a set of clones who have different personalities and character. The story revolves around Sarah Manning who assumes identity of a girl who looks just like her and commits suicide. She uncovers a conspiracy which is a must see. This Canadian sci-fi show is a great work of creativity, acting and technology. I recommend this as a must-see.

No. 3 Firefly

I don’t think there is a sci-fi show fan that would not have been disappointed by Firefly’s abrupt cancellation. Firefly was a western space drama about the crew of Serenity a Firefly-class spaceship with a ragtag team of misfits under the command of Captain Reynolds. The crew of Serenity is involved in actives that in essence are ‘to stick it to the man’ attitude towards Alliance. They carry out missions that always go horribly wrong. They are always moving cargo or smuggling. The best part is the humor and the western tough to a sci-fi show. It was a refreshingly new concept at the time.

No. 2 Star Trek

No 2. On the list is ofcourse Star Trek. All six(The Original Series, The Animated Series, The Next Generation, Star Trek Deep Space Nine, Star Trek Voyager and Star Trek Enterprise) of the series are part of the franchise. I have not included Star Trek Discovery as it is new and needs more time to be recognized as a good show. Star Trek is a complete sci-fi series and all of it is fictional. There is no link to present technology. Lots of today's inventions are inspired by Star Trek.

No. 1 Stargate Sg-1 and Stargate Atlantis

Stargate SG-1 is one the best sci-fi tv shows that I have seen of all times. It's about Airforce teams that go through a ring shaped devices called Stargate to various planets in the galaxy. They encounter various aliens, some friendly and some hostile, some advanced than us and some primitive. These teams called SG teams defend present day earth from all alien threats. SG-1 was a spinoff of a movie by the name Stargate. SG-1 has its own spinoffs Stargate Atlantis and Stargate Universe. I would not include Stargate Universe in this list of top ten Sci-fi TV shows. Stargate SG-1 and Stargate Atlantis both share top spot of this Top Ten list.
