Stranger Things Season 2 ….is Up to the mark?????
SPOILER ALERT!!!! If you have not seen Stranger Things Season 2 please be cautious of this speculations post. This post contains Spoilers.
So after a long wait Stranger Things season 2 came out on Netflix. That weekend became binge-watching time for me. I had to finish watching entire season 2 in two days. So was it worth it? I am assuming, by now lots of fan of the show may have finished watching the second season. There is a lot of buzz about this web television show so I had to write this speculations post.
I always had this question, is Stranger Things for adults or for the kids. That confusion has increased with season 2. I understand Stranger things is a horror show but the first half chapters of the season 2 felt like a horror show and second half a cheap imitation of dinosaur show. The demo dogs, in particular, were a big letdown.
First few chapters defiantly felt like a better version of horror than season 1. Nicely executed horror scenes that make your skin crawl. Well integration of the story from the previous season. I also loved the slow start to build up the suspense as well as the explanation of Eleven (MIllie Bobby Brown) being alive. There was also light humor with Max and the guys which was a nice tough. Chief Hopper falling in upside down was a little unexpected but never the less terrifying. I thought Chief Hopper was a goner and was glad to see Joyce Byers comes to the rescue. All in all first few chapters even though slow were happening.
Second part as in last few chapters, however, were a little disappointing. I do not understand the whole reason for bringing in the demo dogs. I mean we have enough dinosaur movies around to see a similar plot of people getting stuck in a building with demo dogs running around hunting. Demo dogs taking over Hawkins Lab seemed a total failure of armed guards. The kids defend against demo dogs in a bus but the entire armed Hawkins lab falls to the demo dogs, doesn’t make sense. Also did not understand why was El missing in action during the demo dog carnage, I mean not missing but being away from the action. Why the need for bringing in Kali it could have been a season in itself. It’s not bad plot and I see they will address some of it in the next season for sure but why keep El away from her friends in this season? I felt the story was going all over the place. They were trying to show too many things. Last few chapters could have used some more finesse.
They introduced a new character Max (Maxine). I am not sure about Max we will have to see how Max’s storyline is integrated with other kids in the coming season. Right now Max didn’t have a backstory but there definitely is potential. I am hoping for a nice storyline for Max in season 3 than just run around with other kids. Acting wise all the kids were fabulous especially Dustin (Gaten Matarazzo). I don’t understand why Dustin (Gaten Matarazzo) and Lucas (Caleb McLaughlin) are not appreciated as Eleven (Millie Bobby Brown). There is a lot of attention given to Millie’s acting but very less recognition to other kids. I definitely would say Gaten Matarazzo and Caleb McLaughlin have acted a whole lot better than Millie Bobby Brown in this season of Stranger Things
To sum it all up Stranger Things season 2 was very entertaining and worth binge watching for the entire weekend even though it had its shortcomings. I am looking forward to the next season. Do post your comments on what you feel about Stranger Things season 2
